Geotab Africa is pleased to launch the MyGeotab Integration Tool. The Integration Tool is a software solution for manufacturers of telematics hardware, with limited or no software offering.
Industries using fleets rarely have the same brand and model of vehicles as fleets. They depend on various vehicles or equipment to perform various jobs. This results in various hardware and subsequent, software requirements in order to track operations.
A successful fleet requires a synchronized workflow and comparable data. MyGeotab is device-agnostic thus customers can easily manage their fleet using a unified interface, regardless of the telematics hardware used. A MyGeotab database can store information from Geotab GO devices and third-party devices simultaneously.
Integrating a Third-party Device into MyGeotab
Integrating a third-party telematics device with MyGeotab requires the use of the MyAdmin SDK. Through the use of the MyAdmin SDK, the serial number of the third-party device is simply converted into the MyGeotab serial number required. Furthermore, the third-party device is configured to transfer data to our middleware server. The middleware server is also known as the MyGeotab Integration Tool. This is the connection between the third-party and MyGeotab server.
In comparison to the GO device, third-party devices are not FIPS 140-2 validated. Thus, for security reasons, the data transmitted is transferred to the middleware server for decryption. It is then transferred to MyGeotab.
Geotab supports the recording of the following data types from a third-party device:
- Latitude
- Longitude
- Speed
- Date and time
- Ignition status (on/off)
- Auxiliary status
- Device data
