Road Safety

With the busy holiday season upon us, we all need to become mindful of the elevated driving risks during December. The holidays are when roadway risks are at their highest, and attentiveness to driving can be compromised. Factors such as people driving under the influence and a growing number of distractions from the holiday bustle can all impact how much attention we put on our driving habits.

Devices such as the Mobileye Advanced Collision Prevention System increases driver safety by incorporating audible and visual alerts for pedestrian collision, lane departure, forward collision and headway monitoring, as well as, intelligent high beam control and speed limit indications via road sign recognition. These warnings drastically reduce the overall chance of collisions, related costs and minimize the damages via early warning.

Key areas to focus on include:

Planning Your Journey

  • Plan your trips in advance. This allows you time to map out your preferred roads to use and avoid dangerous zones.
  • Give yourself enough time to arrive at your destination, don’t rush.
  • Plan your fuel usage to prevent breaking down in an unfamiliar area.

Checking Your Vehicle

  • Have your car serviced and ensure your vehicle is roadworthy before departure.
  • All lights and indicators, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, exhaust system and tyres should be carefully examined for faults.
  • Do not over- or under-inflate your tyres.

Driver Safety

  • Ensure you have had at least 7 hours sleep before beginning your journey.
  • Drive the speed limit and maintain a safe driving distance from the car in front of you.
  • Stop every 2 hours or 200km to rest for 20 minutes.
  • Ensure your passengers and yourself have seatbelts on at all times.
