An Exclusive Conversation with IHope Global Services and AA Rano on Fleet Management & Telematics.
In the world of logistics, efficiency and visibility are very important. As fleet management challenges increase, businesses need more innovative solutions. This is where Geotab comes in, proud to offer innovative telematics.
To demonstrate our presence and work, we had the opportunity to sit with some of our clients while on their most recent trip to South Africa. IHope Global Services, one of Nigeria’s leading technology solutions providers, and AA Rano, a leading player in Nigeria’s energy and logistics sector. Together, they are leveraging telematics to optimize fleet operations and drive efficiency.
Our panel of guests included the CEO of IHope Global Services, Mansur Danladi. From AA Rano, Head of ICT Abdu Akaks Ibrahim, and Logistics Officer Kamal Muhammed. We discussed their experiences, challenges, and expectations for this partnership in fleet optimization.
Challenges solved when partnering with Geotab Africa:
In our conversation, IHope Global’s CEO Mansur Danladi shared that as a logistics and supply company, he wanted an end–to–end fleet management solution. After looking for several suppliers, Geotab became the no-brainer. He said that while most local suppliers in Nigeria focus on basic GPS monitoring, Geotab offers complete solutions such as real-time surveillance, fuel management, driver behaviour, diagnostic engine diagnostics, and more.
Ibrahim Abdu, ICT of AA Rano Group, also spoke about managing a large fleet, particularly regarding driver behaviour and operational inefficiencies. He said that as soon as they saw Geotab’s possibilities, they realized that it suited their needs and was a partnership worth considering. He stressed that Geotab’s telematics solutions go far beyond basic monitoring, providing valuable information on vehicle health, fuel consumption, and driver behaviour.
Since IHope and Geotab’s partnership has lasted well over a year, what changes have happened in Nigeria’s fleet industry?
Mansoor Danladi shares that telematics is still a relatively new concept in Nigeria. Many companies still rely on basic monitoring systems that provide location data without advanced features like fuel consumption tracking, engine diagnostics, and route optimization. A strategic priority is being one of the first in the Nigerian region to introduce telematics, and Geotab has helped fill this gap. Businesses can now be provided with the necessary tools to improve fleet efficiency by ensuring that innovation is a key driver.
What features caught your attention and stood out while considering a partnership with Geotab?
Ibrahim Abdu, Head of ICT at AA Rano, explained that during their software and hardware training conducted at the Geotab Africa Headquarters, they were evaluating whether Geotab could be the right partner for their needs. He mentioned that while they were still in the process of monitoring and learning through the demo system, they could already see the potential for real-time benefits. With Geotab, they had the opportunity to monitor driver behaviour, which could help reduce idling time and improve fuel efficiency.
They were also able to explore features like real-time alerts for off-route vehicles or unauthorized stops and the possibility of integrating Geotab with their existing in-house software to create a more seamless fleet management system. Ibrahim emphasized that, even in this learning phase, they recognized that this wasn’t just about fleet tracking—it was about optimizing the entire operation and making decisions based on accurate data rather than assumptions.
Where do you see the future of telematics in Nigeria?
When asked about the future of telematics in Nigeria, Mansur Danladi shared that, given the country’s economic challenges, companies will increasingly need to cut costs and maximize efficiency. He emphasized that telematics is no longer optional but necessary. He expressed confidence that their partnership with Geotab would be a game-changer for Nigeria’s logistics sector. He added that with AA Rano being one of the largest fleet operators in the country, other companies would likely follow suit once they see the impact of this solution.
Ibrahim Abdu expressed his excitement about being part of this journey, noting that as more businesses adopt telematics solutions, the entire industry would benefit. He concluded by acknowledging Geotab’s position as a leader in telematics innovation, highlighting its commitment to advancing fleet management solutions. Kamal Muhammed added that once a giant like AA Rano is on board, Geotab wouldn’t need to market itself to other companies. He believes the trust built with AA Rano will make Geotab a trusted telematics provider in the Nigerian region, compelling other businesses to follow their lead.
A Partnership for the Future
As the conversation ended, excitement came from the room. This partnership won’t just be about technology; it will be cemented in revolutionizing the future of fleet management in Nigeria. As fuel prices rise and logistics demands grow, both companies acknowledge that innovative telematics solutions will be pivotal in shaping the future of African transportation. Geotab Africa is poised to lead this evolution, leveraging its expertise to drive transformative change in the region.
Ibrahim Abdu expressed his optimism about the partnership, noting that with Geotab, they stand a chance to bring good change to their fleet management. He believes that the technology, insights, and support will empower better decision-making and, in turn, drive better business outcomes. Kamal from AA Rano shared his vision, acknowledging the incredible potential growth of telematics, but also looks forward to seeing how Geotab’s solutions will evolve even further.
